Last Day in Switzerland

This was our last day in Switzerland, and we started it in Zurich. We decided not to partake in the overpriced breakfast buffet at the hotel, so we went out and found something more to our liking at a coffee house close to the hotel.

At breakfast, we talked a little bit about the differences between Geneva and Zurich, and it came out that Brock felt so comfortable in Geneva because so many of the men around town and at the United Nations were bald! Some came by it naturally, and some shaved their heads, but it was definitely in style in Geneva. Brock fancies himself a philosopher (since that was his undergrad major), and he claims that those who work at the United Nations are "paid philosophers"!! So he contends being bald makes you look like a philosopher! I thought his view was interesting!

Then, we went for another walk along the lake, this time in the opposite direction from yesterday.

Here is what our hotel looks like from the outside:

Here are a few photos from our waterfront excursion:

I made friends with a cute young swan who was SURE that I had breadcrumbs for him:

This place had an impressive security system:

Not only was the gate locked, but the bridge was raised! They created their own moat!

This was an interesting mural we saw along the walkway:

Brock focused on this part of the mural:

The Opera House was looking beautiful this morning:

Back to the hotel, Brock was very impressed by the tiny table on our balcony and wants one for our house, for him to put his drink on!

We bid "adieu" to our new friend, hotel valet "Jean Baptiste", who moved to Zurich from Haiti! Good for him!

Note that Brock and Jean Baptiste share the same hair style!

We left Zurich around noon, and to get out of town we had to drive past Zurich University. They were changing classes at the time, and we about never got through that intersection, what with all the student pedestrians crossing the street from both sides.

We drove through some heavy rain at times. We stopped for lunch at a rest stop and had, guess what, McDonald's!

We thought we would ease back into American culture with this move. But look what other tempting things they sold at this McDonald's:

It was awfully hard; I had my eye on those donuts, but I managed to resist!

After a 4 hour drive, we were back in Munich, and we stopped to give Bella a drink (gas up) and take her to the beauty parlor (car wash) to prepare her for her overseas journey.

We were fortunate enough to be able to book a room at the same hotel where we began our European journey, the Munich Airport Hilton. This has turned out to be incredibly convenient, because:

1) The place where we have to turn the car in tomorrow is a 15 second drive directly across from the hotel; and

2) We can walk right into the airport from the hotel.

Not to mention, it's an incredibly beautiful hotel, the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and they have great food in the restaurant.

They also have a fantastic pool, jacuzzi, and sauna, which we enjoyed before dinner, and that was a great, relaxing experience.

We had a delicious dinner (I had scallops and Brock had veal), and here is what we had for dessert, chestnut flavored creme brûlée!:

(I just couldn't have the last photos in the blog be from McDonald's!)

Well, it's all over but the crying. Tomorrow (Tuesday) we pack up, hand Bella back over to Audi to be shipped, and fly back to Tennessee via Toronto.

It's been absolutely unforgettable, and we have loved every minute. It's been a very fun and unique experience. We miss all our friends and family back home, and I guess we're ready to get back. But we shall return!
