Copenhagen
Our travels went very smoothly! The adventure began in Nashville on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., when we boarded a flight for New York City (JFK). We arrived at 2:00 p.m. and had a seven hour layover there, and Brock was insistent upon going into the city for lunch. So we took a taxi from the airport. It took a good hour, slow-going, to get into Manhattan. We had the taxi driver drop us off at the Four Seasons Hotel, but from there we walked. Coincidentally, we walked right past the Trump Tower. The weather was nice, and cooler than Nashville. We settled upon lunch at the St. Regis Hotel. It was a lovely dining room! We had a delicious meal, around 3:30 p.m., and that was the last food we ate until we got to Iceland! Didn't really plan it that way, but...
Since we were then in the rush hour, we took the subway back to the airport; it saved us a lot of time and only took about a half hour as opposed to the two hours it would have taken in a car at that point.
At 9:00 p.m., our flight departed from JFK for Iceland. We decided to try and sleep right away, since the flight duration was only 4-1/2 hours. It's always uncomfortable trying to sleep on a plane, so I'm not sure how much quality rest we got, but it was better than nothing. However, we missed the food service at the beginning of the flight as a result. There was no breakfast served on the flight.
We arrived in Iceland at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018. We were greeted with 34 degrees and snow showers!
We structured our travel as such: round-trip between Nashville and Reykjavik, and round-trip between Reykjavik and Copenhagen. So we had to grab our bags and re-check them to Copenhagen. We had to kill some time before the airline desk opened and we could drop off the bags for our flight to Copenhagen, so we grabbed a quick bite of breakfast, which was not very substantial. Everything worked out, and it was on to Copenhagen at 10:30 a.m. We arrived in Copenhagen at 3:30 p.m., but it was only a 3 hour flight with a 2 hour time difference. We managed to doze on this flight, too.
We were feeling pretty good, considering, upon arrival in Copenhagen, so we enjoyed the rest of our day there. We took a taxi to the Phoenix Copenhagen Hotel, in the city center near Nyhavn (pronounced New-hawn).
Waiting for us in our room was a plate of fruit and chocolates from the hotel! We really appreciated that!
Here is a shot of the lovely hotel staircase:

It was dinner time, and we were ready for a good meal, so we strolled down the iconic plaza in Nyhavn that you see in most photos of Copenhagen:

As you can see, the plaza was crowded with people and lined with lots of great restaurants and outdoor cafes. We settled upon indoor dining and had a marvelous meal, sharing exceptionally delicious mussels and caesar salad. Brock had veal medallions and I had fillet of sole. It tasted so good, but we were as hungry as horses!
The architecture in Copenhagen is really pretty. Here is a photo of a building that we liked, on our walk back to the hotel:

That was all we had energy for. We enjoyed a long and restful sleep (once we turned off Brock's noisy phone!) and looked forward to spending one more day in Copenhagen sight-seeing before we board the cruise ship.
