Travel Back to U.S.
We returned safely to the United States on Friday, June 1. In case you are interested in what was involved:
We were awake by 6:00 a.m., and on the road driving to the airport in Keflavik by 8:00 a.m.
It took one hour to arrive at the airport, so we were there by 9:00 a.m. We had to return our rental car, then catch a shuttle to the airport.
It took a while to check in, get our bags checked in, and walk to the gate. By the time we arrived at the gate, it was already time to board the flight.
Our flight left Iceland at 10:55 a.m. and arrived in JFK in New York City at 12:49 p.m. There was a 4 hour time difference, so the flight took 6 hours.
We had a 6 hour layover. We enjoyed a nice lunch at The Palm in the airport, and got milk shakes at the "Shake Shack". While buying the shakes, we met a nice young man who was returning to Tucson, AZ after having been in Iceland and Norway. He recommended Norway and said it was beautiful.
The flight out of JFK was slightly delayed, leaving at 7:00 p.m. for Nashville. The flight arrived in Nashville at 8:00 p.m.; it took about 2 hours. We were asleep by 10:00 p.m. All told, we had been up 21 hours.
On the plane to Nashville, we met a nice older woman from Frankfurt, Germany, who didn't speak much English. She was visiting her daughter in Bowling Green, KY for 2 weeks.
I don't think we could have asked for our travels to go much more smoothly.
We are grateful for the opportunity to travel across the world. On this trip, we visited six different countries that were new to us. It was expensive but priceless in many ways. We met so many interesting, nice people along the way. So blessed, so grateful, so many great memories! Thanks for traveling along with us.
Because this post needs some photos, I am including photos of the "towel sculptures" that our cruise ship housekeeper, Nenko (from Bulgaria) made for us, each one more complicated than the one before. The last one is my favorite, check out the sunset in the background:
