Fun Day Around St. Moritz

We enjoyed having a day off from skiing today and did some pretty fun things around St. Moritz. As we walked into town, there is a jewelry store we passed that has exceptionally beautiful (and I am sure very expensive) pieces in the window. We stopped to admire the jewelry, and I began photographing some of it. I really loved this beautiful Valentine's necklace.

The attendant inside became aware of what we were doing and waved us off! I can't understand why anyone would object to me taking a pictures of the jewelry displayed in the windows.

So now I am wanted for spear touching and photographing chocolate and jewelry! So far I have eluded the police, but I feel like they're hot on my trail.

There is a street in St Moritz called Via Serlas that is the equivalent of Rodeo Drive. Everything is out of our price range, but it sure is fun to window shop there!

Since tomorrow is Valentine's Day, we went in a high end lingerie shop. Their hand made creations were also amazingly beautiful but even Brock was shocked when we learned the cost of one bra was over $1000!

Also on Via Serlas is Badrutt's Palace Hotel, which is very elegant, with Rolls Royces pulling up to the door. We walked in and took a peek. You can also catch a horse and buggy ride there:

I previously wrote about the White Turf event that is taking place on Sunday. Right now the whole race area is open, so we walked down to the lake and checked it out!

We got to stand right up against the track, then walk through the area where the tents are. We could see in several of the VIP tents. The luxurious set-ups were amazing: fur-lined stools and benches, entire living room seating areas, flowers and fine china, multiple elegant chandeliers.

We liked this colorful poster of the jockey silks:

We met another furry friend who liked playing in the groomed snow:

You can see the ski area above town, including the tracks for the funicular (cable car) that we use to go skiing.

We enjoyed the experience so much that we purchased standing-room-only tickets for White Turf on Sunday! We are happy this event coincides with our visit!

After visiting the ice, we walked up to the nearby train station and did some research on a scenic round trip train ride from St. Moritz to Tirano, Italy and back. We plan to do that on Saturday!

So we have some exciting things planned for the next few days: skiing Friday, train ride Saturday, horse racing on a frozen lake Sunday. We're finally hitting our stride on this trip!

While out shopping, we purchased a few souvenirs and some small Valentine's Day gifts for each other, then dropped into Hanselmann's Cafe for a light lunch. Hanselmann's has a chocolate shop in front and a cafe in back. This is the place that scolded me for photographing their chocolate creations. (Slipping in unnoticed, I was relieved that they didn't recognize me!) Since they specialize in sweets, we had to indulge in a nice dessert or two before we left:

It's been a fun, laid-back, and interesting day!

We finished our day with a fun fondue meal.

We hope this blog isn't getting too cheesy!
