Rainy Days and Mondays - Part 2

We left St. Moritz about 1:45 p.m., made two quick stops, and pulled up to our next hotel at 7:00 p.m.

We saw a lovely sunset as we were driving.

We are staying at the Golfhotel Les Hautes de Gstaad in Saanen.

Our room is in a different building than the main hotel, and it is quite a hike from our room to the reception and dining area!

It was exceptionally warm, maybe 45 degrees, and did not freeze overnight. The ski area is much lower than St. Moritz. There are quite a few villages that comprise the Gstaad ski area, and most are not connected to each other. We skied the area closest to our hotel. This photo was taken on the first gondola ride up.

The scenery was pretty, as it is everywhere in Switzerland, but not as dramatic. Due to the warm temperatures, the snow was soft and sticky. It became apparent pretty quickly that some weather was coming in.

We enjoyed our easy cruiser skiing, but it was very limited territory. Nevertheless, the soft wet snow allowed for some "green contrailing." While I held back, at times Brock chose to hit the afterburners, and smoke more than a few Euro wannabe's who thought they could ski fast. The conditions, melting yet carvey slush, allowed for some pretty good late spring skiing, at least by Montana standards. But by early afternoon as the rain began to fall, the Elmer's Glue began to set in.

We stopped for a water break and discussed our options.

We wanted to have a fondue lunch there, but they did not accept credit cards.

Since it was raining, we skied to the base and walked back to the hotel for lunch. We are not very happy with the cooking at the hotel.

We have decided that the price we are paying at our hotel is not worth what we are getting in return. We decided upon a change of plans and a change of venue. We definitely would not recommend the Golfhotel Les Hautes de Gstaad. More to follow.
