Life is Movement
The snow began falling yesterday, lightly at first, then harder, and the wind was howling. By this morning our hotel porch was covered and we had about 2 inches on the rails.
At breakfast we met a very striking, colorful trio of skiers from Thailand! (We have never met skiers from Thailand before.) They spoke excellent English, and we enjoyed our conversation with them. They arrived in Val D'Isere yesterday too, after 30 hours of travel.

If you put Brock in the middle, we've got a traffic light! How appropriate that Brock wears green, for "go"!

They are, L-R, Kay Phosrithat, Deer Pachimsawat, and Ben Chirakula-Vivad. Kay and Ben are married and have a one-year-old at home. They have been skiing together for a long time, and we enjoyed comparing notes about various places to ski. We are hoping we will get to ski with them before we leave.
Last night I took some photos from our porch that capture the beauty of Val D'Isere at night.

This is what our hotel looked like today:

It was a harsh, blustery day. After breakfast we checked out of the hotel, retrieved our car, loaded it up with our minimalist luggage, parked the car at the new hotel, geared up, and caught the bus to the ski area.
Due to the weather, the ski area was only running a few lifts, and there was no charge for lift tickets. We skied free!
The weather discouraged most skiers, but not us! We skied for over an hour, maybe 8 runs, found some ice but also found some nice snow. This ski day was not for the faint of heart! But we had a lot of fun with the limited territory that was open.
When we had had enough, we stopped at a nearby pizzeria for lunch. Brock liked the way these wine glasses were displayed in the bar there.

On the way back to the bus, we stopped at a grocery store, and low and behold, what did Brock find but a rare (in Europe) bottle of Maker's Mark!

He looked a little happier in this harsh weather than me!

Our dinner at our Hotel Avancher deserves a mention. The meal wins an A+ for presentation, and also taste! Brock's ribeye with peppercorn sauce was melt-in-your-mouth good:

My scallops with apricots were delicious; the purple dish is mashed sweet potatoes:

But best of all was our dessert, Profiteroles with caramel and vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate sauce. Oh, my goodness!

Because of the weather, we didn't take many photos today. This blizzard is supposed to continue for days!
