Brock and Jane Land In London!

Just think, we were last in Europe on March 15, 2020. So much has happened since then. A little Pandemic. But we're back!

On August 14, 2022, we boarded our British Airways flight direct from Nashville to London. The flight was pretty empty; we had plenty of room to stretch out. The flight departed at 8:35 p.m. and landed at London Heathrow at 10:30 a.m. on August 15, after 7 hours and 20 minutes of flying time.

Through our hotel, we had arranged a driver, who picked us up in a lovely Audi A8.

Only one problem with this car: the steering wheel was on the wrong side!

Somehow, being in an Audi helped us to feel right at home!

After about an hour of driving through traffic, we arrived at our hotel, the Chesterfield Mayfair. We stayed at this hotel the last time we went to London for the Titans game. It's a very nice hotel in a good part of town, and we know the area pretty well.

While waiting for our room to become available, we grabbed some Fish and Chips at the local pub (The King's Arms).

It was delicious! Before we knew it, our room was ready, and we happily unpacked and took a nice, long nap.

We enjoyed some drinks at the Terrace Bar at our hotel:

Somehow that Manhattan tastes so much better in London than at home!!

For dinner, we opted to eat at our hotel in the Butler's Restaurant. A trip to London would not be complete without Dover Sole, deboned table side:

Thanks to the Chesterfield Mayfair for making us feel so at home:

After this wonderful meal and dessert, we slept like babies.

The next morning (Tuesday, August 16) we ventured out to the British Museum. There was a huge queue to get in, which wrapped all around the block.

Our favorite exhibit at the British Museum is the Assyrian exhibit. Greeting us at the door to this exhibit is the 5-legged creature we have dubbed "5 Trails":

This tablet, from 560 BC, depicts a struggle with archers, a battering ram, and some people who lost more than their lives:

Here are some more warriors:

Brock liked this tablet because the subject is wearing watches (sundials)!:

I took a liking to this Colossal Foot from a Roman statue:

You could spend days in this museum, and we just barely scratched the surface.

This pub across from the museum caught my eye due to the lavish flowers cascading down from its roof. It is the "Greene King Museum Tavern":

Our next stop was London's iconic department store, "Harrods". Anyone who thinks there is a recession needs to spend a few minutes in there and you will decide otherwise. It was FULL of shoppers! The clothing departments were quite chopped up and organized according to designers. It was overwhelming. My favorite part of the store was the Candy department!:

We couldn't leave without purchasing some macarons:

Well, maybe my favorite department was the bakery, which was a true feast for the eyes:

I'm starting to notice that we take a lot of photos of food!

Here's one last food photo, of our dessert from the Italian restaurant Sale E Pepe, which is near Harrod's. And yes, this was incredible!:

Here's to being in London:

Until tomorrow, ciao!
