Side Trip to Annecy, France
It was Friday, March 29, 2024, and our final destination was Geneva, Switzerland. But we decided to take advantage of having a rental car, and instead of driving straight from Chamonix to Geneva, we took a slight detour to check out the new-to-us, smaller town of Annecy, France. It was about an hour from Chamonix, and about an hour from there to Geneva. It's fairly close to Albertville, where a fairly recent winter Olympics was held.
We found a parking garage and then were able to hoof it to Annecy's Old Town, dripping with charm. Brock is standing in front of the key hole entrance to the Old Town. Believe it or not, cars could fit through the key hole, but once inside, it was only wide enough for one car to pass at a time. Thankfully, there was not heavy car traffic on this street. It was mostly for pedestrians.

There were many cafes with outdoor dining.

We ate at a place that specialized in burgers. It was nothing fancy, but it sure tasted good to have a good old burger after all the rich food we had been eating!

We drove along Annecy's lake, and past other little towns along that lake, and it was lovely. I could definitely see the draw, why someone would want to live there. It was a delightful area, and I'm so glad we stopped to check it out.
Then it was back to the main highway, and the many toll booths, on our way back to Geneva. We made a wrong turn, but in so doing, we found a place to fill the car up with gas! We then dropped the rental car off at the airport and took a taxi to the Hotel Metropole at the foot of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).
