Thursday, August 17 - Snaefellsnes, Iceland

Brock was feeling much better after a good night's sleep. We slept in separate bedrooms, so we both probably slept better because of that. We had spent the night at the Ragnarsson' home in Snaefellsnes known as Hnausar.

This is the home.

The outdoor shower is just around the corner in this photo of the Sauna building. It was a real treat!

This is the sauna building, with the outdoor shower to the left.

It is a little hike from the house to the shower and sauna.

Kris took Brock for a ride around the property. It was stunning!

The area is volcanic.

This is Kris's black sand beach.

Kris is rightfully proud!

This is Kris's waterfall!

It was raining pretty hard on this day.

There were even free range sheep!

There were also horses. Brock got pretty close.

These are the closest neighbors.

This is some volcanic rock just outside the front door.

On the way to lunch, we passed this feature which is also on the Ragnarsson' property which is a tourist attraction. I would call it a separation of the earth.

You can see people hiking up to see it. They look as small as ants.

A few miles away from the Ragnarssons' house, we had lunch at an area called Hellnar which was also a tourist attraction. There was a large parking lot and a hiking trail for these people to enjoy the view.

This is where we had lunch: Fjorhusid (which means "house at the shore") at Hellnar. It was very tiny but there was an open table and they managed to fit us in! We had, guess what, Fish Soup! And it was delicious!

After our delicious lunch, we packed up the car and headed back to the condominium in Reykjavik. It was about a 2 hour drive. Rabby and Kris share the driving. Halfway they change drivers. On this day, they stopped at a bakery which they said was in the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" - as a pizza place. We stopped for coffee and pastries, then continued on our way with different drivers. We appreciate all the driving they did for us!

This is the last picture that we took. We ate at a delicious restaurant in the harbor area called Primavera, dining on fish. After dinner Kris drove us around town to show us the houses they lived in when they were growing up. It was fun and interesting. It was very late when we got back to the condominium and tucked in for the night.

The next day, August 18, I would rather not remember. Suffice it to say that they drove us to the airport early, Jane became ill, we had multiple flight challenges, and we arrived home on the morning of the following day, August 19, 2023. Rabby also became ill, but not Kris. Everyone recovered. And that, my friends, is the end of the story.

Many thanks to Rabby and Kristjan Ragnarsson for their hospitality!

With regards to the Viking Saturn, we loved being on such a new ship. We had great meals for lunch and dinner at The Restaurant; there was great variety and quality of food, great staff, and great service. We enjoyed the spa amenities. I would say that the shore excursions were for the most part overpriced and not as fun as when we set out on our own. We were blessed with calm seas for the most part, and they did a good job of sailing the inside passages to make that possible. However, we knew there was a greater risk of catching COVID on a cruise, and that fear was realized. I don't see us doing another cruise for a good long time. We loved it, it was a great experience, we're glad we did it, but next time it's time for something new!

Thank you for reading about our wonderful trip to Norway and Iceland.
