Travel to Bergen, Norway
We departed from Nashville, TN at 10:00 a.m. on August 1, 2023, and arrived in Chicago, IL around noon. Our second flight was delayed by about an hour. It left Chicago at around 4:00 p.m. and arrived in Frankfurt, Germany, around 7:00 a.m. Our third flight was also slightly delayed and left Frankfurt around 11:00 and arrived in...

... (Norway) around 1:00 p.m. on August 2. By the time we arrived at our ship, the Viking Saturn, it was 2:00 p.m. and our room was available to enter. But first, here is our selfie from the plane before we left Nashville:

Brock took some good photos from the plane as we were leaving Nashville. This one shows a barge, with the Opryland complex in the background:

This one shows the Old Hickory Dam:

Once in the Chicago airport, Brock's carry-on bag handle broke...

so he had to buy a new carry-on bag...

and all was well then. He had quite a comfortable set-up for sleeping on the long flight:

We both managed to get some decent rest on the plane and didn't feel too worn out once we arrived in Bergen. However, we appreciated our room being ready once we arrived on the boat!
Flying over Norway looked a lot like this photo below, much to our surprise. There are thousands of islands, creating thousands of fjords! It's hard to see where the mainland is, or if there even is one!

We also passed over a lot of fish hatcheries like the one below:

It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day in Bergen. This is our first glimpse (from the bus window) of the Viking Saturn, our home for the next 2 weeks:

There were some very interesting boats in the Bergen harbor, including this humongous, very impressive sail boat:

We will check that out a little closer tomorrow. There was also a lovely icebreaker on the move:

Here is a view from our balcony. In the background is Mount Ulriken, accessible by cable car. It is the highest of Bregen's famous seven mountains. We didn't get to visit that on this trip, but maybe we will get to next time!

This is another view from our balcony, with another ice breaker in the foreground. What lovely, clean air!

Time for an early dinner and an early bedtime! Let the adventures begin tomorrow!
